A ctrnft, type wave of m=5 mode was observed bv the microwave scatterinstechnique in an r.f.-nenerated masnetorJasma contained in the mirror masneticfield. The maximum densitv fluctuation estimated by integrating the powersrectral densit>r function was d./fi.'::0.08. A theoretical analysis based on athree-fluid model disclosed that the observed wave was governed by not onlythe neutral but also the coulomb collision and the predicted growth rate waslarge especially in the experimental range.
