This paper deals theoretically with the two-dimensional flow driven by a symmetrical Joukowski profile oscillating harmonically along its axis of symmetry in an unbounded viscous fluid otherwise at rest. Slow steady secondary flow which occurs outside the boundary layer layer around the profile is studied in detil. It is found that a uniform flow is induced at infnity owing to the asymmety of the profile in the direction of oscillation.
