We study an instability of the antiferromagnetic phase when subjected to an external field along the easy axis of the uniaxial antiferromagnet. This instability leads to a formation of a magnetic order with more than two sublattices. This instability occurs when the intra-sublattice exchange is also antiferromgnetic, and it may happen for fields smaller than the critical fields for the transition to the spin-flop or intermediate phases.
