Zeeman Study of Nuclear Quadrupole Resonance of Nitrogen in Hydrazine

Experiments of the Zeemen effect in the nuclear quadrupole resonance of N^<14> in solid hydrazine have been made at liquid nitrogen temperature. The principal axes of the field gradient tensors at the positions of N^<14> were determind. In the coordinate system in which the z-axis is parallel to the crystallographic b-axis and the x-axis is parallel to the N-N bond direction, their polar angles are (θ_x=37°, φ_z=206°), (θ_x=59°, φ_x=-11°) and (θ_y=72°, φ_y=90°). The principal z-axis is not coincident with the lone-pair derection and the angle between them was 33°. The bond angles ∠H-N-H=90°, ∠N-N-H=160° are calculated by neglecting the ionicity of the N-H bond as well as the N-N bond.
