Magnetostriction Constants of Single Crystals of Nickel-Copper Alloys

Magnetostriction constants, λ[100], λ[100] and λ[111], of Ni-Cu alloys containing 0∼30.42% copper are determined from the longitudinal magnetostrictions of single crystals by means of optical lever method. Saturation magnetostriction of the polycrystal, λ_s, calculated from the magnetostriction constants are found to changed linearly with the copper content, C, as λ_s=(-36.4+1.17・C)×10^<-6> which is in good agreement with previous experimental results. Moreover, the coefficients of dipole-dipole interaction, introduced by Neel, are discussed by use of the elastic parameters.
