Calculation of Paramagnetic Susceptibilities for Ni, Pd and Pt Metals

The formula of the paramagnetic susceptibility for metals given by Kubo and Obata in the tight binding approximation is extended so as to include the effect of a molecular field, and by making use of this formula the paramagnetic susceptibilities of Ni, Pd and Pt metals are calculated, on the basis of the energy bands given by Friedel et al. The calculated results agree with the experimental results qualitatively, by adopting the reasonable values of the molecular field coefficient. In the paramagnetic susceptibilities for Pd and Pt metals the mixed contribution X_<so> due to the spin and the orbital angular momentums plays an important role, but in Ni metals this contribution is negligibly small.
