UPtAl is a ferroraaagnet xvith 21 spontaneous taa?tgnetic nuouaaent Al. : 1.38 p.5 /['.tr. directed alongthe hexagonal c axis and Ctrrie tetnperatvrre T0: 43.5 K. Tlae trniaxial magrnetocrystallitueanisotropy is very strong, tlae estitaaated stnisotropy field B.. exceeds 290 T. In a thertaaallydetnagraetized sar'taple tlae initial strsceptibility along the c axis is xrery IOXV for a xvide field interxr?tlbelow a critical field B.j.. Then the taaagnetization iuacreases ?tbrtrptly and sattrrates in ;x r?tthernarrow field interval, The low-temperattrre hysteresis loop is altarost rect;tngtrlstr xx'ith a 100%remanent magnetization. The coercivity (B. : O.7T at l.7K) w'eakens rapidly xvith increasingtenaperature and vanishes at 20 K. A zero-field cooled sanaaple exhibits a latrge tl?erun?tI ltysteresis.In the vicinity of' B.g and B., a very pronotrnced taastgnetic viscosity is observed. As the uaaainrnechanisna of tlae magnetic hysteresis xve jcrojoose the pinning of' doraaain walls xvhich 21I'C verynarrow dtte to tlae htrge atnisotropy and a reltttively xveak exchange interaction. The strsceptibilityas a f'trnction of' tertaperattrre in param?agnetic range obeys a Cturie-XVeiss l?tw xvith ar? efl'ectixreraaagnetic tnonaetat jt.? : 2.85 p.? /f.v+. The p?tratau?ngtuetic Ctrrie teuauperattrres O, observed in fieldsapplied atlong the a- and the c-axis dif['er consideratbly ( -375 and 46 K, respectively) reflectiragthe fact that the huge trni?txial magnetic anisotropy persists in pararnagnetic st?tte. The electricalresistivity of UPtAl is rsrther isotropic. The large rraagnetic contribtttion to resistivity is dtre toa strong inter'action of condtrction-electron states with tlae narroxv 57'-band st?ttes resjconsib[efor U magraetic nuoraaents in UPtAl. Up to T : 30 K, the tetaaperattrre dependence of resistivityobeys a qtradratic laxv p(T) o pg -p AT' xvitla A : 0.061 p.Q- ctaa/K'. UPtAl laas an enhancedelectronic specific-heat coefficient 7 : 69l11J/11101-K'. The correlation between A ;'tncl y fits tothe Kadowaki-NX7oods plot.
