'Positon' and 'drotnion' soltrtions ?tre derived for the long xvave-short waxze interaction eqtrationsin a two-layer fltrid. Positons are new, exact soltrtions of nonlinear evoltrtion eqttations thatexhibit algebraic decay in the far field. A positon soltrtion C2111 be generated by taking a speciallimit of tnulti-soliton expansior'r. Variation of' the limiting process yields different soltmtions.Drouaaions are exact, localized soltrtions of (2-l-l) ditauensional (2 spatial, l teraaporal) ruonlinearevolution eqtratiotas that decay exponentially in all directions. Ouae a?ad higher dron'rion solutiorasare inx'estigated, ;tzad a particular case of higher drounior'x solutioras is cotasidered in details. Byapplying another lirniting procedtrre a new soltrtion is generated. Tltis rtaethod of 'coalescenceof eigenvalues' or 'waventrzaabers' is tlttrs quite universal, and C2tl'l be apjclied to a xvide varietyof expansions, not just tlae uaatrlti-soliton type. Finally, the case of propagation solutions on acontinuotrs xvave backgrotrnd is also sttrdied,
