Analysis is made of the phenomenon that elctromagnetic waves radiated from a dipole source in a thin plasma slab, become extremely weak outside the plasma, contrary to the case where no plasma is present. The so-called total reflection is also analysed as rigorously as possible, where both the arguments and the orders of the Hankel functions in the field expressions become imaginary. Physical meanings of the imaginary quantities are considered.
