Simply approximated expressions for collisional-radiative reaction rate and radiative loss in a partially ionized gas are discussed. The linearized equations describing non-equilibrium flow of an ionized gas with a radiative loss are derived for the two cases, in one of which radiative recombination and de-excitation probabilities are dominant and in the second collisional probabilities are dominant. As an illustration the axial velocity distribution in a two-dimensional supersonic jet is considered. The methods of analysis and the solutions are discussed for the two cases above and for the possible values of the parameters characterizing reaction rate and radiative loss. The profile in general consists of two parts: One is due to the pressure difference between a jet and its surrounding fluid and the other due to the radiative loss. The latter profile is characterized by a modified triangular wave starting immediately after the exit.
