At many places in the north half of the Chita peninsula and the southwest part of Mikawa, the growth of pine trees, Pinus Thunbergii, was diagnosed. When the damage index of the plant was plotted against the average sulfation rate of aerial sulfur oxides measured at each place, a close relationship between the two was apparent. Consequently, it seems possible to estimate the concentration of aerial sulfur oxides at any place at least in the area by obtaining the damage index of pine trees.
