This paper explores the potential of interactive narrative environments for the development of museums online contents. Interactive narrative refers to a computer based story-telling process in which the user has an active role in constructing the story narrative while interacting with the story elements such as characters, events, settings, among others. Essentially an art form, interactive narrative can be effectively used to create compelling and educative digital experiences. The paper further describes the development and evaluation of an online multi-user prototype of a non-fiction interactive narrative based on a historical event. When experiencing the prototype, curators(museum experts)and users interact as characters in a role-playing environment while browsing through digital cultural material(reproductions of artworks and objects)related to the story theme.
