The females of the insect mate repeatedly and eggs are laid in a mass with increasing size and decreasing interval between the successive ovipositions. Hibernated adults live fairly long as compared with those of the two consecutive generations even excepting the duration of hibernating period. Fecundity of the hibernated adults is two to three times and the frequency of mating is five to six times as much as those of other generations. Females mated repeatedly begin their egg laying after two to four weeks of their emergence, and can deposit fertile eggs for a relatively long period after the death of the paired males. Positive correlation between fecundity and longevity was observed only for the hibernated generation. Unmated females can produce a normal number of eggs and lived 34 days longer than the mated ones. Mating activity becomes high about a week before the first egg laying and becomes the lowest the day before oviposition and again rises to the highest as the eggs have been laid. About 60 per cent of the females had matured eggs in their ovaries when they died irrespective of the generation. Most of the hibernated females deposit unfertilized eggs at first for several days in small sized masses and begin laying of fertile eggs. Fractions of unfertilized and fertilized but unhatched eggs decrease and that of viable eggs increases as the parent becomes old. Adults of the first and the second generation, on the contrary, lay fertilized and hatchable
