The infrared spectra of adsorbed hydrogen on platinum observed by Pliskin and Eischens and those on zinc oxide by Eischens, Pliskin and Low are reviewed shortly. Two bands were observed in the latter case, which were assigned by them to the stretching vibration of ZnH and OH groups. Two bands, the one broad and the other sharp, are also observed in the former work. It is shown that the sharp band might be well be assigned to the hydrogen adatom which increases both the work function and the electric resistance of evaporated clean platinum film, and the broad band to the hydrogen adatom which decreases both of these on the basis of the theory of hydrogen adsorption on metal surface developed recently by the present author. The contrasting breadths of the bands are also discussed.
