It is shown that a configuration in which the protons are excited from the ground state configuration to the similar orbit as the uppermost occupied orbit of neutrons and which has been neglected in usual shell model calculations contributes to α-particle type four-body correlations in heavy nuclei. It is noted that the excited new configuration enhances the four-body correlations when the effective interaction is attractive in the singlet even state and the condition is just in accord with that on the effective interactions to constitute α-cluster. If the low-lying configurations are included, then the α-decay reduced width of ^<212>Po becomes 30 percents larger than that for the conventional configuration mixing calculations by Harada.
