Cyclodextrins(CDs) are in a group of structurally related oligosaccharides. The important characteristics of the cyclodextrin molecules are their cylindrical shape, somewhat hydrophobic central cavity and hydrophilic outer surface. So, CDs are capable of forming inclusion complexes with many organic and inorganic compounds. The inclusion compounds enhance solubility, chemical stability and bioavailability. In this study, one of the aims is to determine the usefulness of β-CD as an accelerator for plant germination and growth. The other aim is to determine the fungicidal activity of β-CD-iodine inclusion complex(BCDI). β-CD enhanced germination ratio and plant growth of a leguminous plant and broccoli. Fungicidal activity of BCDI was that, BCDI at concentration from 20ppm to 100ppm inhibited the proliferation of various fungi. These matters may indicate that BCDI, or the mixture of BCDI and β-CD are useful in accelerating the growth of plants, and in prevention of a fungal disease.
