The authors studied about some kinds of tool with the object of mostly drilling and partly milling the hard special steel plate by the use of common tool machines. Most of tungsten carbide tools such as Widia which were made in the foreign or in this country, failed by the small vibrasion of machines, and they were thought to be uneconomical. Next, nitrided tools of Al-Cr-Ni-Mo steel, Cr-Mo steel or high speed steel, were researched. But, they also failed for drilling, however some of them promised to be usefull when further reserach should be carried on. Finally, the authors studied on the some super-high speed steels, and the above problem was solved by the improvement of heat treating. These researches were carried out during the period from 1930 till 1931.
