As a first step towards clarifying the mechanism of precipitation in Be-Cu alloy, the crystallographic relation between the α-phase (matrix) and the γ-phase (precipitant) in single crystals of Be-Cu (Be=about 2%) which were quenched and then aged at 350℃, was studied. Microscopic observation of the aged sample revealed a set of regular streaks having 3 to 5 different directions. On the stereographic projection, the normals to these streaks pass very close the {110} poles of the matrix. We may, therefore, assume that the precipitant precipitates on layers which are parallel to the {110} planes of the matrix. By means of the rotating-crystal method the crystallographic orientation of the γ-phase in relation to that of the α-phase was studied. The result of the analysis seems to indicate that (001) _α∥(011)_γ and [100]_γ∥[100]_α.
