Granulated ethylenediamine tetraacetic acid disodium salt (EDTA-2Na) was coated with polyolefin resin to control its release into soil. The granules contained 15.7% EDTA and 71.0% K_2SO_4 on a dry-weight basis and it took 10 weeks for the granules to release the first half of EDTA. Italian ryegrass (Lolium multiflorum Lam.) and red clover (Trifolium pratense L.) were grown in sandy soil with A1PO_4, FePO_4, or CaHPO_4 at a concentration of 0.2 g P_2O_5 pot^<-1> (4 kg soil) with and without coated EDTA. Plant growth was significantly enhanced due to the increase in P and K uptake, although, powdery EDTA at the same dose impaired the growth.
