Investigations to evaluate the phosphorus fertility status of soils from rice-wheat, rice-berseem, and rice-fallow cropping sequences were carried out in a greenhouse using 39 representative soils, 13 from each site. All the soils contained very high concentrations of total, organic, and inorganic forms of P. Total and organic forms were found frequently more in the rice-berseem sequence followed by the rice-wheat and rice-fallow sequences. On the other hand the proportion of inorganic and AB-DTPA extractable fractions was greater in the rice-fallow sequence followed by the rice-wheat and rice-berseem sequences. In most of the soils in all the cropping sequences there was a medium to low range of AB-DTPA P with 61.5 to 69.2% falling in the medium range. Furthermore, flood water, aerobic and anaerobic AB-DTPA were highly significantly correlated with the amount of P absorbed by rice.
