Application of both N and P increased the yield, dry matter content, and the uptake of N and P by the tomato plant. Foliar application of a part of the fertilizers was superior to soil application in increasing the tomato yield, dry matter production and uptake of nutrients (N and P). Foliar application of N and P was on an average of 2.02 and 1.63 times more efficient, respectively, in increasing the tomato yield than corresponding soil application. The amount of fertilizers necessary for optimum yield was reduced by applying part of the nutrients (N and P) to foliage.
