The model introduced in the previous report (Nakahara 2000: Soil Sci. Plant Nutr., 46, 11-20) described cation adsorption on Choyo B soil satisfactorily. The optimized parameters, r_<so>, n_<tot>, and d_<IHP>, are physically sound. When the total number of cations per one allophane particle n_M is less than 1.0, major type of cation adsorbed was in the form of diffuse ion swarm. On the other hand, when n_M was higher than 1.0, the fraction of surface complexes increased with n_M. The reason for the suitability of the Freundlich-type adsorption isotherm for application to the cation adsorption on allophane was clarified.
