To establish the handy procedure by which K and Na in HCl-extract of soils are microchemically determined using high-frequency apparatus and paper chromatographic procedure without prior separation from each other, the present study was conducted on the selection of suitable developing solvent, on the chromatographic technique, and on the modification and application of radio-frequency apparatus. As a result, the following two useful methods were recommended; the direct method in which K and Na are directly estimated on the chromatogram, the titration method in which K is determined by titration after extraction.It can be said conclusively that the titration method is more available to obtain accurate result for K than the direct method, aside from somewhat more complicated treatment in the former than the latter, and that the estimation of Na can be accomplished more accurately and rapidly by the direct method than the titration method.
