• This report is the results of studies and discussions of the Committee on manufacture of steel ingots most suitable for making solid drawn tubes and consists part of the subject in research : "Study on the manufacture of high quality low-carbon steel" Steel Ingots for solid drawn tubes were made by the Nippon Steel Tube Co. Ltd., the New Fuso Metal Industries, Co. Ltd., the Yawata Iron and Steel Co. Ltd. and Amagasaki Iron and Steel Co. Ltd. The Yawata Steel Works supplied the billet to the Nippon Tokushu Steel Tube Co. Ltd. As each of these tube manufacturers had depended on its own special means of processing, it was somewhat difficult to define ingots most suitable for making good tubes. Thus both rimmed and killed ingots were used for making tubes of adequate quality In this report the steel-making processes of all the above mentioned works were reviewed and discussed.
