The reflective type color STN LCD without the use of a backlight, as an alternative of a low power consuming display device, have been receiving increasing attention recently. However, its optical characteristics related to the color purity, which has been developed up to now, fall far behind other display devices. Therefore we have examined the optical design requirements able to display more colors, as well as improve the purity of display color, report here the results.
