The heat and UV light stability are important for the liquid crystals applied for the liquid crystal display (LCD). We were carried out the UV degradation test of liquid crystals. In this test, the liquid crystal was dissolved to the acetonitrile solution and UV light irradiation was performed. Under this strong condition, liquid crystal A was almost completely decomposed after few hours. It is interesting that the main degradation product is not the compound with simple cleavage but the compound generated with the cleavage of the ester bond and formation of the diphenylketone structure. Liquid crystal B was slowly decomposed and generated isomers of liquid crystal B.
