On this research the writer intended to investigate the fundamental principles of the "Hot-Dip" galvanizing process of steel pipes all along. His ultimate purpose is to make good and perfectly galvanized pipes, in every direction, by fully investigating all the facts which are derived from the real consequences of the present research. He utilized, in his experiments, a pretty large zinc-bath, 7, 000×760×1, 200 deep mm, for he thought it most appropriate to do so, on the point of view of obtaining the progressive consequences of the experiments which are easily comparable with the results obtained from the daily factory work by using the same bath in this case too. Moreover, he has chosen 3/4" butt-welded gas pipes for the test pieces of all the testings he treated, as he thought that 3/4" welded pipes are most widely galvanized in these days for gas and water line services etc., and therefore it would be most worth to choose them for his experiments. From this point of view, the writer had as many testings and experiments as possible on the zinc-coatings of 3/4" butt-welded gas pipes with respect to the following subjects. : - 1. The copper-sulphate solution tests of the zinc-coatings. 2. " Antimony-chloride tests for detecting the weight of zinc-coatings on the pipe surfaces. 3. " Axial compression tests of the coated pipes. 4. " Bending tests " " " 5. " Alkali tests of the zinc-coatings. 6. " Sea-water corrosion tests " " 7. " Clean water " " " 8. " Atmospheric-Exposure " " " 9. " Earth-Exposure " " " 10. " Microstructure tests " " 11. " Hardness tests of 3/4" butt-welded gas pipes : - original black pipes, pickled black pipes and the zinc-coated pipes. 12. " Tension and Elongation tests of 3/4" gas pipes : - original black pipes, pickled black pipes and the zinc-coated pipes. Appendix : Miscellaneous Notes on the hot-dip galvanizing process of welded gas pipes are fully given.
