This paper introduces the method of making one-track absolute encoder pattern and of detecting rotary axial absolute position. A one-track absolute pattern is made by a M-sequence or a computer's try and error. The number of photo-diodes lying in a circumference direction line at intervals of one or more pitches, are 11 in case of 2048 pulses. The trial product is 2048 pulses, 3 tracks and 50 mm in diameter. Three tracks are incremental, absolute and its inverse pattern track. In the 11 photo-diodes at a boundary of the absolute pattern, the detecting data indicates a wrong position. For this error prevention, the trial product has 22 photo-diodes at intervals of a half pitch, and these are divided in two groups at intervals of one pitch. The absolute signal which is chosen between the two absolute signals by the incremental signal, indicates the exact position.
