We had the fortune and the honor of having Ambassador Kotobalavu as the speaker for the 2nd public meeting of our PACIFIC-RIM CITIZENS'CULTURAL FORUM held on November 5, 1983 at Seiryo Kaikan behind Akasaka Tokyu Hotel in Nagata-Cho, Tokyo. As Ambassador Kotobalavu himself says, many of us are concerned today of the adverse impact of modernization and industrialization on the traditional life style and the socio-cultural values of the Asian nations in the Pacific Basin, who are experiencing a period of rapid economic development and social changes. We Believe that success in modernization in Asia has a better chance if the Asian nation involved is allowed to find its own way of weaving its modern social texture with traditional cultural fiber, new Western institutions, and modern industrial technology. Today, Ambassador Kotobalavu speaks on his nation's experience and Problems.
