Yury Olesha often describes images of the garden in his works. In this article I have described some aspects of these. His garden is the place of comfort and people enjoy its light and air. In many myths, gardens are closed. In Olesha's works paternal images dominate the garden and separate it from the outer world. Olesha connects his story of occupation of a closed garden with a mythical story : patricide, which pervaded Russian literature in the era of the revolution. The images of the garden are the symbol of a lost paradise as well as of the utopia dreamed of in the Soviet Union. In this sense, the images of the garden In Soviet literature symbolize both past and future. In Olesha's text, the images of garden are connected with reminiscences. In 1930s, under the pressure of Stalinism, Olesha continued to describe gardens, referring to the canon of Socialist Realism. Here we can see the intercourse between the personal vision and the totalitarian discourse.
