The voluntary aspect of television watching behavior, which can be measured using conjugate reinforcement method, is a factor which needs to be examined in rating audience of TV programs. This study examined how response rates of TV watching behavior vary as a function of the number of times the subjects watch the same program. It also examined whether the response rates differentiated according to different types of programs. It was found that response rates decreased as a function of the number of repetition and that they differentiated according to the different pro-grams. The method used in this study provides an operational definition of voluntary aspect of TV watching behavior which has not been taken into account in previous surveys.
