We have reviewed our recent papers on supermassive black holes (SBH) and determined constraints in accretion theory and on the properties of black holes in AGNs. It is found that a smaller value of α is needed in the accretion disk for Seyfert 1 galaxies than for PG quasars. This difference in the value of a maybe lead to the different properties for Seyfert 1 galaxies and quasars. We also obtained the accretion efficiency in a sample of AGNs. This result suggests that most of radio-loud quasars possess Kerr black holes, while Seyfert 1 galaxies and radio-quiet quasars may not possess Kerr black holes.
