I discuss the recent developments in the theory of charmonium production in elementary and nuclear collisions. In particular, I show that the model based on the dominance of higher Fock states in quarkonium production provides a universal explanation of the J/ψ suppression observed in all p-A and A-B collisions - with the recent Pb-Pb results of the NA50 Collaboration representing the only exception. The possible origins of this "anomalous" suppression, and further tests of its nature are discussed.
