For example, gold dust, raw silk, cloth, cotton thread, and purple and red dye stuffs were shipped from the Tohoku region to Edo and the Kamigata region, and from Kamigata cotton cloth, ginned cotton, carpentry tools, Osaka handicrafts, Omi tatami covers. sundry wares, sugar. Seto pottery, tea, second-hand goods, and whetstones were shipped to Tohoku. The two primary trade routes were the Edo-mawashi via the Inland Sea to Edo, and the Akitamawashi route via the Japan Sea and Akita to the Nambu region.
