We have constructed the Hilbert space of free quantum electrodynamics in a gauge that formally interpolates the Coulomb and Landau gauges: ∂^iA_i+λ∂^0A_0=0. The limit as λ→0 of the photon propagator in this gauge does not reproduce the propagator in the Coulomb gauge. We infer that the source of this difference lies in the non-uniformity of the limiting procedure which converts the hyperbolic differential equation for A_0 to and elliptic one.
