The motion of a classical spin interacting with the surroundings is investigated. The equation of motion of the expectation value of the spin and the Fokker-Planck equation for its distribution function are derived microscopically. The results are in agreement, except for a minor correction, with those obtained by Kubo and Hashitsume phenomenologically on the assumption of the Landau-Lifshitz friction term in the equation of motion.
