Present status on the experimental and theoretical studies of the outcomes of the direct collision between solid bodies is reviewed. In the first part experimental data obtained in the laboratory impact experiments are provided focusing on the destruction type, size distribution and velocity distribution of the collisional fragments, and energy partition rate in the cratering and catastrophic disruption, which play crucial roles in the collisional evolution of the planetary system. Unified scaling laws on impact phenomena are summarized in the latter part. The initial impact pressure multiplied by the projectile volume, P_0L_p^3, is shown to be a suitable parameter for the impact crater scaling. The ratio of the shock wave stress at an antipodal point of a target to its material strength is found to be a very versatile scaling parameter to describe various phenomena associated with impact fragmentation.
