A Note on Alfven Solitons

The properties of Alfven solitons have been analyzed by explicitly solving the eigenvalue problem of the Kaup-Newell inverse scattering transformation scheme for an initial sech-type pulse. It is shown that an initial pulse of amplitude A_0, width D, and modulation wave number, K_0, gives rise to n-solitons, where n is an integer satisfying the condition (K_0/8)^<1/2> A_0D > n.
