• This paper considers some of the consequences of the relaxation of symmetries found in conventional spin-glass models but not generally in the wider class of disordered and frustrated systems. Potts, quadrupolar and clock models are discussed explicitly, illustrating new features and suggesting more puzzles for future investigation.
