It is shown that a two-dimensional anisotropic metal with open Fermi surfaces is unstable (at the appropriate choice of the interaction constant) against the spin density wave (SDW) or charge density wave (CDW) pairing in an arbitrary weak magnetic field. The tight binding model for the electron spectrum is investigated. It reveals a peculiar degeneracy responsible for a number of interesting properties. Applications of these results to the quasi-one-dimensional (Q1D) compounds (TMTSF)_2X are discussed.
