• An asymptotic field representation of the Thirring model, developed by Nakanishi, is extended to the U(u)-symmetric Thirring model in this paper. Instead of using the customary massless Dirac fields, the Thirring fields are constructed out of massless scalar fields defined in an indefinite-metric space. Both of the two possible values of the SU(n) coupling constant are realised. Certain non-dynamical operators are introduced into the Thirring field so that it has a Lorentz spin of one-half.
