Beta decays of 2^+ states in ^8B and ^5Li to the lowest 2^+ level in ^8Be have been considered. Straightforward shell model calculations have been performed for the various levels in question with the inclusion of the Coulomb interaction in the total Hamiltonian. Contributions to mirror ft asymmetry arising out of higher isospin admixtures within the (1p)^4 configuration as well as from the different admixtures of n>1 harmonic oscillator states into zero order 1p oscillator radial proton and neutron wave functions in the mirror nuclei have been estimated. Results arrived at are, however, much smaller than the observed ft asymmetry in A=8 triplet as obtained from direct comparison of absolute ft values in the mirror decays.
