Crossover from thermal activation (over-barrier hopping) to quantum tunneling (through-barrier hopping) is studied based on a microscopic model for atomic diffusion in solids. The crossover temperature T_c is explicitly given in terms of the rate for a non-Markovian process at high temperatures.
