We reexamine non-compact non-linear σ models thoroughly for all the real coupling constant and in any space-time dimensions. We show that composite gauge bosons become dynamical in a region. We correct the various inadeequate treatments in the works by other authors. In particular we emphasize that negative norm should be introduced in quantizing such a system properly. Then the difficulty is clarified to keep unitarity in non-compact non-linear σ models. Further we claim that the sign of the bare coupling constant which yields a positive classical Hamiltonian is inconsistent in quantum theory.
