An attempt is made to account for the energy dependence of the slope (shrinkage or antishrinkage) of differential cross section in p-p and p-p^^- diffraction scattering. It is assumed that the effective interaction is described by a potential around the black sphere and that the potential is repulsive or attractive for the p-p or the p-p^^- system, respectively. π^±-p and K^±-p scattering are also discussed in connection with resonances.
