Zero-Energy Elastic Scattering Length of Positrons from Helium Atoms

The scattering length is calculated for elastic scattering of slow positrons (with vanishing velocity) by helium atoms according to the variational methods of Kohn and Hulthen. The value obtained is -0.5462 in atomic units and is a little larger than the value -0.5754 of Kestner, Jortner, Cohen and Rice. It is found that the value of the scattering length depends especially on the choice of the value of the dipole polarizability.
