• The scattering length is calculated for elastic scattering of slow positrons (with vanishing velocity) by helium atoms according to the variational methods of Kohn and Hulthen. The value obtained is -0.5462 in atomic units and is a little larger than the value -0.5754 of Kestner, Jortner, Cohen and Rice. It is found that the value of the scattering length depends especially on the choice of the value of the dipole polarizability.
