Symmetry breaking due to the medium-strong interaction is taken into account for the electromagnetic and weak interactions in the octet version of the unitary symmetry model (SU(3)/Z(3) group). The result is applied to the electromagnetic form factors and the weak leptonic decay of baryons. A postulate (which is expected to hold about 98% accuracy) derived from the detailed suudy of the electromagnetic mass of the octet baryons will serve to gain more information than by the mere study of the symmetry breaking solution. Among them, one relation obtained for the magnetic moments of the octet baryons will be of particular interest. Several relations derived for the effective coupling constants of the baryon leptonic decays will become important once the experimental accuracy of the branching ratio of these decays increases.
