An operator identity concerning the Hamiltonian of a harmonic oscillator enables one to calculate the distribution of the energy of nuclear radiation from solids, which includes the effect of multiple phonon processes exactly. The moments of the recoil energy or of the energy of radiation are obtained to any order in terms of the moments of the frequency of lattice vibration. These relations suggest a method of experimental determination of the frequency distribution of lattice vibration.
