The influence of non-magnetic impurities on superconductivity is investigated on the basis of Bardeen, Cooper and Schrieffer's theory. It is shown that the impurity-scattering of electrons leads to the reduction of the energy difference between the superconducting state and the normal state, and the effective reduction of the electron-electron interaction due to phonon exchange and screened Coulomb force takes place as a result. This effect can account for the reduction of the superconducting transition temperature which is observed for tin by Lynton, Serin and Zucker. The calculated value of the change in the transition temperature is in agreement with the experimental one.
