3-3 Resonance Effect in the Nucleus

From the viewpoint that the nuclear many body effects can be taken into account by applying the Pauli exclusion principle to the intermediate state of the nucleon, various processes in the nucleus are discussed. It is shown that in the nucleus the peak of the 3-3 resonance in pion-nucleon scattering is remarkably reduced and its position shifts towards higher energy by 200 MeV. A 22.5% reduction of the anomalous magnetic moment of the nucleon and considerable modification of the optical model potential for pion-nucleus scattering is shown. In contrast to the result by Frank, Gammel and Watson, the real part of the potential remains strongly attractive and the imaginary part is greatly reduced near the resonance energy. The photopion production cross section is calculated and compared with experiment.
